We are a family-owned importer, distributor, and retailer of Italian food products in Brooklyn. We are seeking a truck driver to make deliveries to customers and pick up merchandise at vendors. We utilize two box trucks and one van to make deliveries; no CDL required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Driving to stops throughout tristate area, primarily New York City, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey
Following route exactly as prescribed by management using routing sheets and GPS devices
Making timely and courteous deliveries to customers; conducting oneself professionally during pickups at vendors
Checking invoices with customers and vendors to insure all merchandise on bill is accounted for
Participate in loading of truck each morning, either as forklift operator bringing pallets to truck, or on truck using pallet jack to arrange pallets
Unloading truck at delivery stops using loading docks, liftgates, or moving merchandise by hand
Maintaining appropriate temperature onboard for refrigerated or frozen foods
Protecting merchandise from damage using straps, load bars, and careful driving to prevent pallet tipping or material handling equipment from moving around truck body
Staying in contact with management throughout course of business to review routing, proper storage of pickups at end of day, and troubleshooting other issues
Assisting with unload of truck after route
Collecting payments and insuring full amounts are safely transported to office
Keeping careful records and organized paperwork during route, including but not limited to: invoices, bills of lading, credit card authorizations, check and cash receipts, fuel receipts, driver logs, maintenance reports
Qualifications
Familiarity with basic truck and vehicle care/maintenance, rules of the road, DMV guidelines, DOT regulations, and commercial driving best practices
Knowledge of material handling, warehousing, logistics, transportation
Strong communication skills, both in person and by telephone when on the road
Requirements
Minimum one (1) year experience as a professional driver, or minimum of two (2) years experience as a helper/lumper, dispatcher, warehouse worker, or other non-driver in related field
Strong record of workplace and driving safety
Valid driver license Class A, B, C, D, or E
Availability to work full time, Monday to Friday. Saturday shifts available during busy season.
Legal authorization to work in the United States
Ability to speak and comprehend English (proficiency in Italian and/or Spanish welcomed)
Compensation
Hourly base, starting at $17.50
Case commission, starting at $0.25 per case transported
Overtime (1.5x) above 40 hours/week
Health insurance after one year of service
Paid time off (PTO) for vacation after one year of service
