The GED Tutor provides academic instruction and learning support to online adult learners preparing for the General Educational Development (GED) examination. The tutor supports in-person and online learners using individualized and small-group support in core subject areas, assesses student skill levels, develops learning plans, and supports students in building academic confidence, study skills, and test readiness. The GED Tutor works collaboratively with program staff to promote student persistence, goal attainment, and successful completion of the GED prep.
Responsibilities
Provide in-person and online one-on-one or small-group GED instruction in one or more subject areas (Math, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, Social Studies)
Assess students’ academic levels and tailor lessons to individual learning needs
Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with GED standards to support the Aztec online learning environment
Support students with test-taking strategies, study skills, and goal setting
Track student progress and provide regular feedback
Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
Maintain accurate records of attendance and student performance
Communicate professionally with program staff and students
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
Prior tutoring, teaching, or instructional experience (especially with adult learners) preferred
Online instruction experience required.
Knowledge of Aztec preferred
Strong knowledge of GED subject areas (expertise in at least one required)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping others succeed
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Basic computer skills; familiarity with online learning tools is a plus
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to work extended hours on feet and perform repetitive motions.
This position requires the tutor to engage participants from a secure, distraction-free location when providing support to online learners.
Tutors must have reliable high-speed internet access, a functioning computer, webcam, microphone, and any required software or platforms necessary for virtual tutoring.
